2019 Volleyball Season in the Books

The Panthers had their best run on record, but came up short against UMass Boston in the LEC final.  I cannot say enough about how well impressed I am with this entire group including the coaching staff, the facility support folks, media group, fans and a simply amazing group of girls.  Props to everyone for a banner year!

We are all so proud of Francie for being one of the stand-outs on a winning team like this.  Numbers aren’t everything in sports, and Francie showed she can hold up both ends of the elite player role last season.  Plymouth State Women’s Volleyball is set for another record run next year.

Good-looking group of PSU athletes we got, huh?

Total Victory is 1 Match Away!

Plymouth State Women’s volleyball is just amazing this season  They knocked off Eastern Connecticut yesterday to earn home court advantage in the final.  In preparation for next year’s undefeated run, the Panthers will take the undisputed Little East Conference title this year against the University of Massachusetts tomorrow.

“A service error stopped the run, however, and the Panthers would maintain the lead, closing out the win on an emphatic kill down the line by Shaffer.”

I’m already looking forward to the 2020 season.  The Phenom from Frederick earned LEC Offensive POW twice this year.  I think that number is going to go up next year!  But 1st the LEC…

LEC Almost Locked

Plymouth State tightened their grip on the Little East defeating conference rival Keene State 3-2 in a hard-fought match Wednesday evening.  Francie scored a personal record high 22 kills.  Maybe we’ll be seeing some new stuff in the women’s volleyball record book after this season.  OPW 2 weeks ago.

The PSU media moguls were gracious enough to provide some video clips:

Aaaaand a few photos:

NCAA Div.III Little East

…Will belong to Plymouth State in the Women’s Volleyball category this season.  Yesterday they extended their lead to 12-1, cruising to a 3-1 victory over Regis, with Francie leading the attack.  Keene State is the only other team even remaining in contention, at 10-3:

9-0 Baby!

Plymouth State are the ones to beat in Women’s Volleyball this year:

All strong wins – not a 3-2 in sight!

Another Dead Bee

Time will tell how le’Von does in New York, and New England already re-signed Brown for a 1-year $15M deal.  We’ll see if Bell learned anything, but I’m afraid it may be too late for Antonio. Somebody needs to tell this butthead to STFU and grow the fuck up.

Play Ball!

It’s my favorite time of year once again folks.  Temps are beginning to cool and I have plenty of footballs and volleyballs flying around on TV screens to keep me occupied.  Steelers are 3-0 on the pre-season, with Denver 0-3, so football’s looking likely to be a mixed bag again this season.  Francie’s 1st match is Friday, with the new schedule posted here.

Steelers Failed Stupidly

Tomlin admitted what everyone who follows the Steelers saw halfway through the season last year. It seemed clear to me that with Bell in the lineup and the Killer B’s hitting on all cylinders, the Steelers would be unstoppable. Pundits agreed early on Pittsburgh could be a top contender for the 18-19 season. Too bad a greedy player ruined it for everybody, and Tomlin et al, failed to manage the situation.

Xmas in Golden

…home to one of the largest single-site breweries in the world – Coors. Few large breweries perform every single step of the process at 1 location, but they do it all from scratch right here by Clear Creek in Golden. This tour was nice, but I liked the Budweiser version up in Ft. Collins better. Still, a great little outing for the Panama family.

Every Cloud has a Silver Lining

I’m a big fan of the old adages suggesting we make the best out of a bad situation. Seems like that’s been a lifetime theme of mine. The lightning strike back in September certainly tested my patience in that regard, as I found ever more dead electronics for weeks following the strike. I finally got around to the main room sound system yesterday and as expected, much of it was toast, including the Sunfire Subwoofer – a $2k piece. But after getting a re-furb’d Outlaw 975 installed and the amps replaced with off-the-shelf spares it’s back up and running at lower power with the 2nd string amps, sans the sub – but not for long. A quick measuring tape exercise confirmed my hope that a new PSA S3611 dual-opposed 18″ monster boomer will fit under there:

It plays little brother to the V3611 I’ve been enjoying in the man cave for the past year. There’s no way that behemoth looks right anywhere upstairs, but the S3611 tucks in under that TV shelf quite nicely. I suspect it also out-performs the big boy downstairs somewhat, considering the uniquely customized corner placement in a smaller space.
