It never surprises me to see the fawning adoration leveled at our mountain places by various journalists. Telluride is one I’ve never actually visited yet. Two or three times a year I’ll head up to Pinewood Springs just to buy a CO Cherry Co. pie and enjoy the ride. I’m sure I’ll make it to Telluride one of these days.

Dan Crenshaw is one of the better stealth Trumplicans, skirting issues and dodging questions with alacrity whenever he appears. He recently misspoke with determination on Treveor Noah’s podcast, cherry-picking the Virginia school issue stating “…has CRT been promulgated in the schools, and the answer is yes.” Which is of course, absolutely false. Maybe he’s talking about their WVa repug neighbors trying to actually legislate historical censorship?
This occurs in an atmosphere of legal intimidation for teachers, and school administrators. Jim Crowe v2 would be the most apt cliche moniker. They can’t argue history and the fight was lost long ago, so they attempt to legislate against reality as Trumplican-induced angst flares in white supremacist hovels across the country.
These mutherfuckers lie to their constituents about religion and racism in order to fool them into voting against their own interests. It’s fucking despicable.
Maybe they should break it down by category. For example: best patriarch, strongest mode of oppression, scariest tenet, least believable teaching, etc…

I have a few friends of native heritage. I feel guilty living on this land when I think about them. The Sand Creek Massacre happened not many miles from here. I go through there from time-to-time and think about my friends whose families survived.
The heinous bastard who led that disgraceful stain on our history later ran for governor of Colorado. The campaign focused on his great success at Sand Creek and pride in getting that done. Seems like some things never change while history repeats itself. American culture is as racist, misogynistic and hateful now as it was then.

Here’s some purely anecdotal evidence showing America’s declining social situation. IIRC, we just had three weeks running without a “shots fired” entry in the local blotter. Just when I thought maybe things were calming down, apparently they are not. At least nobody got shot last week, despite a teenager going on 72-hr hold after an altercation involving a deadly weapon. Looks like one of the incidents was actually some sort of drive-by.
That is unheard of in Frederick CO, ostensibly, one of the safest places to live in the whole damn country. I noticed that entry in the weekly local LE summary Frederick publishes for the first time ever over a year ago at some point after pandemic restrictions went into full swing. Never saw it before, and now it’s a regular feature of the report, with incidents growing in severity.
It’s hard to argue with the safety rating while traffic stops and pet problems make up the bulk of the work. But the trend is not good.
We had some nice, colorful fall foliage this year, so I stopped to take a few pics from a little different perspective on our walk yesterday. We often take a route following the creek south from the house, around a big neighborhood loop, returning along the creek from the north. It gives the dogs three different off-leash stretches including the highline ditch running through Hobby Horse farm west of here. The maple trees in back are getting big, leaving a copious amount of leaves in the yard to be dealt with.

We had three different colors on the backyard maples. The creek’s getting low this time of year, but the mutts always manage to get plenty muddy anyway. Soon it’ll be frozen and I won’t need to hose them off every time we get home!
