It's Almost Over

Trump certainly performed well as the useful idiot in every way ever expected. The Federal government has been completely bogged down with nothing much done for over 2 years. Seriously, that is really the BEST I have come to expect from Washing D.C. – NOTHING. Because at least in my view, “nothing” is better than the never-ending string of ongoing stupidity and waste coming out of that institution we call a Federal government.

But what I did not expect was the overtly public and disgusting displays of pure disrespect. Sure politics is a dirty business, go figure. I knew the guy was a fuck-ass businessman, but did not realize he is actually just stupid. The extent to which this moron has used vile impertinence and contempt in his public behavior and communications is unnerving, even to me – a retired enlisted military member who grew up learning to swear with the best of them, where provocative language and colorful discord was the norm. When time for John McCain’s funeral rolled around, it was the last straw for me. Let the impeachment proceedings begin.

Then a few days later we see this. What a shame. The guy is a national disgrace.

The Crux of the Matter

Is simply this. Far too many in power still hold dear their biblical devotions, and associate all matter of professional and political life with it. The separation of church and state concept was a great idea, but we never really thought it all the way through. Garnering tax exemption while raping children in the choir room closet seems a bit off, to me. ISIS believers plan their next IED attack the same way conservative judges block human rights, while stupid believers shun vaccinations for their children and countless other acts of inhumanity: In the name of Gawd. That’s how I spell it and that’s how I see it – fairy tales mocked, now grown into globalized evil for all to see on the air and cyber-waves every day.

Your Tax Dollars at Work

What more do we need to see before people wake up to the fact that our government is riddled with corruption?

The FDA Advisory Board chairman called for the drug to be rejected, but they approved it anyway. How does that work? The interesting thing to me is how the pharma companies keep re-making this same poison in ever more concentrated form. Therefore, as the excuse goes, it’s more tightly restricted. …Leading to guess what? Higher prices, of course. It’s getting more expensive to die of an accidental overdose.

Whodathunkit?

More Nefarious Government Collusion

Conservative Modus Operandi: First you get control by stealing the election, then rush to implement as much of the agenda as possible, including diversionary tactics like re-scheduling a drug (but not it’s source), because some of this stuff is just so stupid you know another election win is totally out of the question.

A couple months ago, I posted a little quip about the end of the Marijuana Prohibition era. It’s truly un-deniable – it IS coming. Then you see stuff like this:

“In other words, rather than apply generally to all CBD-based products, the order applies to only those that have cleared FDA’s expensive and time-consuming approval process.”

So according to the DEA, Cannabidiol (CBD), the non-psychoactive, safe, highly effective and clinically proven compound occurring naturally in the Cannabis plant is still a dangerous drug with no medical application. Really? This is such total horseshit it almost defies comprehension. It benefits nothing and nobody except the drug companies and harms everyone without access, or who cannot afford it.

But comprehending the new DEA scheduling makes perfect sense. The collective conscious that is our government cares only about a few things. Near the top of that list is the monetary math supporting establishment and protection of wealthy political contributor’s unfair market advantage through (among other things) corrupt regulatory practices. The health and well-being of millions of citizens does not factor into that equation.

These pharmaceutical companies can profit from millions of people addicted to opiates, then get away with shyt like this.  Our culture has already legalized Marijuana. The question is how long will it take for the laws to catch up. People need to stop promoting and buying the pharma garbage, starting with doctors who should be smart enough to know better.

Maybe enough of them are just too greedy to care as well.

Cannabis Prohibition is Effectively Over

It was gonna happen sooner or later. And no, Herr Trump did not make another executive order and the Supreme Court hasn’t had anything to say about it either. But the wheels of government turn slowly – when they move at all. Anyone with their ear to ground on the Cannabis issue saw it coming years ago, and like the article says, June 2018 was a banner month.

I know it saved me. I have such an acute case of full-body arthritis and lesser neuropathy symptoms, doctors were prescribing a max dose of Tramadol for years, along with shot-in-the-dark attempts at things like anti-depressants and high-strength prescription anti-inflammatory drugs (one of which induced coronary symptoms). It continued being a downhill slide, health-wise during that time. I was just drugged out of my mind, not feeling it so much. Now after a couple years of learning how to use weed, I can say although not recovered by any means, I am myself again and can live a somewhat physically less un-comfortable life – without dangerous pharmaceutical drugs.

Your Own Personal Echo Chamber

Time for another FaceBook rant! An article published recently in Rolling Stone magazine does a good job of correlating the numerous issues begetting contemporary social media cyber culture.

Whether Facebook is just a reflection of modern society or a key driver of it, the picture isn’t pretty.  The companies awesome data-mining tactics wedded to it’s relentless hyping of the culture of self has helped create a world where billions of people walk with bent heads, literally weighed down by their own bullshit, eyes glued to tele-screen style mobile devices that read us faster than we can read them.

As one of FB’s overtly public victims (including ALL traditional media and news sources), Rolling Stone may have an ax to grind.  But as with all memes and stereotypes, regardless of their truth or relevance today, the sentiment (or thing) had to start somewhere.
In this case, Mr. Taibbi’s analysis appears to me to be spot on.  That is an accolade journalists rarely get from me these days.  I’m presently leaning towards agreement that a Ma-Bell-Style breakup might be the best course of action. I think that’s the least we could do for “a giant blood-engorged tick hanging off your frontal lobe.”

Trump's Latest Distraction

The Commander in Chump’s current obsession with Amazon is truly entertaining, to say the least. Despite their relentless late-night attacks, it’s easy to see why the comedians just love the Trumpmiester. You can’t make this shyt up. Stumbled upon just now:

“How much longer are the Lemmings going to support this idiot? FACTS: The Post Office makes a tidy profit carrying Amazon packages. Unlike the junk mail we are still deluged with. When will Herr Drumph go after those folks? Next fact: Amazon collects and remits sales tax in all the states which charge it. Unlike many other online businesses – most notably eBay.  Trump is going after Amazon because its founder Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post which keeps annoyingly publishing stories that are less than flattering to El Douchee and his Cabinet of misfits.  Donnie – how about we discuss how you and your cabinet are fleecing taxpayers so you can vacation all over the world? Trump didn’t drain the swamp, he restocked it with new species of cretins and grifters.”

Thank you Micheal Steel, whoever you are, for posting the truth. Amazon is probably one of the few big companies currently doing an ethical, good job. They pay decent wages and provide employment to thousands of Americans in an expanding business, meeting growing demand. Comparing or tying that to the USPS in any way whatsoever is so flagrantly absurd only the Trumpster could come up with it.
He should be talking about privatizing the Postal Service (not the VA!). USPS has been a losing proposition almost since day one. What’s that old adage about “…good money after bad?” Would it take much more than re-painting a few thousand trucks and have about half their employees fill out new employment paperwork with FedEx or UPS?

Elon is (not) “the Man”

Falcon Heavy just opened a new outer space chapter, with exactly the right point of emphasis. It’s Space-X and Musk all the way – no government B$ to muddy up this rocket program:

The level of achievement here is massively impressive considering guaranteed profit scams sheltered by government regulation and unfair trade practices are the only consistently produced U.S. business ventures in recent decades. Lockheed and Boeing must be drawing big question marks around plans for their horribly subsidized United Launch Alliance – the U.S. government-run space launch monopoly.

They wanted “heavy lift” so a 2-ton car should do the trick for demonstration purposes, right? Where did they want it? Mars? OK, no problem. Track Starman’s progress here.

Go for it Elon!

Fuck FaceBook

I’ve been harping on this for years. Glad to see people are starting to wake up. How they were doing it wasn’t clear, but the fact they were making huge bags of money manipulating people was pretty obvious. The fact they provided a vehicle for electioneering is just disgustingly insidious. We need more high-visibility celebrities like Jim Carrey coming out against this Social Media stupidity that is ruining society. Mr. Carrey put it bluntly and correctly: we need Capitalism with a Conscience.”

Fuck Facebook

Looks like SBIRS is Done

My history with this program goes all the way back to 1983 when it was DSP (Defense Support Program), as a new Airman 1st Class at Buckley Air National Guard Base. The next chapter came 18 years later as a civilian Systems Security Manager in 2003-4, after it became SBIRS (Space-Based Infra Red System) at some point along the way. In 2003, the program was still riding high with hopes for the 3-tier constellation alive and money flowing. There were over 400 people working in the Boulder facility, with hundreds more scattered at various places all over the world.

15 years later, The country’s biggest, most expensive, longest-running space program has run it’s course and holds an oddly satisfying place in my career experience. The program’s future seemed all too obvious to me, after my last trip around the SBIRS 3-ring circus in 2014-15. Lockheed had already been engaged in an adversarial relationship with the Air Force for quite a few years before I returned for my last taste of it. That episode only demonstrated just how bad it had become by then.

So as expected, egregious mismanagement and government fiscal stupidity now delivers 4 GEO’s, 2 HEO’s and a requirement for an all-new missile warning system – instead of the fabulously comprehensive umpteen sat, 3-tier (LEO-GEO-HEO) mega system originally planned. That cash cow is now just so much dust scattered in Lockheed’s enormous DoD contracting wake. The thing they don’t tell you in the Satellite Today Article is this was the last SBIRS bird ever expected to see a launchpad. GEO-5 is scheduled in 2021 IIRC, but I doubt it will fly if they even finish putting it together. The program managed to set a new Nunn-Mcurdy record with no less than 4 separate budget breaches big enough to invoke the Congressional re-certification process. Those are just the biggest of the publicly available examples of fiscal malfeasance exhibited over the now 40+ years of total program timeline up to this point.

We as a nation have spent Billions of dollars on the highest of the high tech space systems the world has ever seen. It really is an amazingly effective, useful system that has proven it’s worth in our national defense many times. But it technically “belongs” to Lockheed, and as the final “affordable” piece went up last week, it was already being declared unsupportable, with new RFP’s now being developed for industry as I type. At least this time around the Air Force will not allow the contractor to maintain control over whatever they come up with next.

SBIRS never approached half the capability engendered in the original 3-tier constellation and ended up costing taxpayers orders of magnitude more than was ever officially budgeted for it. When will the Big Business USA scam ever be collectively recognized for what it really is? Big Business = U.S. Government. There is literally no distinction. My Lockheed pension will be guilt-laden for the rest of my life. As far as I am concerned it is dirty money. Not long out of high school I unwittingly joined the dark side, earned both government and contractor pensions, and now receive a fully-funded retirement from age 56 for my contributions to the War Machine. My entire working life from the time I took the oath of enlistment until the time I left Lockheed supported the insanity.

Take any industry sector, be it DoD Contracting (one of the biggest), Oil & Gas, Transportation, Pharmaceuticals – you name it, they all have correspondingly big government agencies populated with industry insiders and lobbyists with one common goal – extract as much revenue and profit from American taxpayers and consumers as possible. Who is buying what product or service, collateral damage and what companies grow or die fairly or not from the policies and laws they enforce matters not, as long as everybody on the inside gets paid. Elected officials are merely prone-to-human-exploitation gatekeepers and election-derived course corrections are just ripples in the economic vibe. When or where was the tipping point at which the government stopped being of the people, by the people and for the people?

More Damning Evidence Against Alcohol

All you big drinkers, don’t look now, but the evidence that alcohol consumption is very detrimental to your health is mounting. I wonder how widespread is knowledge of the simple fact that alcohol is by definition, the most dangerous drug known to man:

This is categorized under “politics” because, in case you were wondering, decades of political collusion have been the alcohol production chain’s primary enabler from the farmer’s field all the way to the liquor store. Aaaaaand in ring #2, we have Big Pharma with the ongoing painkiller crises, and in ring #3…

Maybe Somebody Just Needs to STFU

…Online, at least. Politics and Teaching – what a combination. Exactly what “is” a teacher or professor’s job these days? Apparently the job description now includes molding young minds in the likeness of their preferred political bent. Publicly. Really? I wonder if this guy’s classes often started with a review and discussion of his most recent Twitter posts? Must be quite a few cleaned-up minds coming out of Drexel these days.

This is for you, teachers and professors across the country: Teach. Mentor. Study. Research. Then when it’s time to spend your free time online, consider NOT waxing political. If you feel like you can’t keep it non-partisan, then just STFU. “Free thinking” is only supposed to be free for the person doing the thinking. If you expect to use taxpayer dollars intended for education (your salary) to run a political campaign or be some sort of political activist, your ass needs fired.

This is just the tip of the social media iceberg boogeyman.

It's about Goddamned Time

The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known,” Haley said. “We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked.

– Nikki Haley, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations

Bastards at the UN got what they asked for after the Jerusalem vote. $285M is a small dent in the multi-billion UN budget, but at least the a-holes are on notice now. Good luck to all the UN parasites – this has been a long time coming, and they can expect more of the same.

Here's Some More of what Happened…

…Maybe even a big part of it. I posted a little editorial back in May on my view of the Russian election meddling and related issues titled “What Happened to My Internet?” I’ve been warning about this for many years, and it’s starting to look like I’ve been right on target all along. Another formerly big player from Facebook has come out against the social media frenzy presently gripping the world:

He went on to describe an incident in India where hoax messages about kidnappings shared on WhatsApp led to the lynching of seven innocent people.

Full story here.

I remember being fascinated by electronic technology of all kinds, even as a child. That is probably what led me into the high tech fields early in the era before the Internet as we know it today even existed. One common theme I’ve seen all along is technology’s very sharp double-edged sword nature. Whether attributed to Voltaire, Spiderman or the many others who used it over the years, the old adage rings true: “With great power comes great responsibility.”
