Setting up a Pop Account in StarOffice
Written By: Eric Krout

This brief NHF will describe how to setup a POP3 account in StarOffice since there's been some confusion about it lately.

1. Locate the main DESKTOP of StarOffice, which normally contains icons such as "NEW TEXT DOCUMENT", "NEW SPREADSHEET", etc

2. Right click anywhere on the DESKTOP

3. Go down to "NEW", and then "POP3 ACCOUNT"

A box will popup where you will then fill-in the appropriate settings for retrieving your email.

4. Specify the mail server in the SERVER text box (normally something like "mail.bucknell.edu")

5. Specify the USERNAME and PASSWORD for the server you just specified in Step 4 above.

You will now notice a new icon placed on your StarOffice DESKTOP called something like "mail.bucknell.edu", which you can use to access your email.

You're now done, although it's probably a good idea to specify how to send you mail, too.

6. Right click anywhere on the DESKTOP

7. Go down to "NEW", and then "OUTBOX"

8. Click on the SERVER tab, and specify the appropriate SMTP server (probably something like "smtp.bucknell.edu")

You'll now notice a new icon on the desktop named something like "smtp.bucknell.edu", although you shouldn't ever have to click on it.

If you did everything correctly, you should now be able to send and receive email (to read and send email, use the shortcut on your StarOffice DESKTOP marked with the "blue-sleeved hand and envelope icon").
