Skamm sent in these simple instructions for getting your zip drive mounted.
Warning: this example is for Redhat, but may easily work with other distributions
as well.
mkdir /mnt/zip
:insmod parport
:insmod ppa
:mount -t msdos /dev/sdX4 /mnt/zip
Don't use "insmod parport"
if your version is pre-5.2
Heres Sensei's contribution :)
To use and check your zip:
cd /mnt/zip
ls -a
VOILA!

This is how I got my Zip working under Mandrake 7.0:
Added to /etc/rc.d/rc.local :
insmod parport
insmod ppa
Added to /etc/fstab, copying off the entry for the floppy (and this is
where I deviate from the NHF directions) :
/mnt/zip /mnt/zip supermount fs=vfat,dev=/dev/sda4 0 0
I then simply created an URL kdelink to /mnt/zip on the desktop.
Clicking the link brings up the disk contents; if there's no disk, it says
the location is unreadable. Inserting a disk causes it to be mounted
automagically, and clicking refresh displays the contents. In other
words, it basically works as seamlessly as it did under Winblows.

Add,
insmod parport
insmod ppa
to the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file so that they will execute on
startup. I added the entries at the beginning of the file after the first
comments.
Add,
/dev/sda4 /mnt/zip vfat user,noauto 0 0
to the /etc/fstab file.
Now create an Icon (shortcut) on your desktop.
Right click the desktop, New, File System Device, label it Zip.kdelnk, click ok.
Click the device tab, in the device frame type:
/dev/sda4
in mount point type /mnt/zip.
Change the Mounted and Unmounted icons to the zip disc icons (Sensei--probably under
/usr/share/icons or /usr/share/pixmaps).
The above all assumes you have already made the /mnt/zip directory and
that you only have one scsi device.
With this done you can click on the desktop Icon and view the zip contents without any
other actions. It is recommended that a disc be in the drive when booting or boot will
have to time out on its search of the drive. This set up doesn't allow the user to
write to the disc. Most of this info was found on the net. If there's an entry that
will allow the user to write I would like to get it.
This is how SLoW got his Zip
Plus working

mkdir /mnt/zip
cd /mnt
insmod imm #The drive should light up and initialize
mount -t msdos /dev/sdb4 /mnt/zip
