Setting up DHCP under Corel for @Home Cable
Posted by: 6plpy
I see a lot of people are having problems getting DHCP to work with
@Home cable modem service. Well, see if this works:
(I'm using Corel Linux, but may work for other distributions)
with a text editor, open up:
/etc/init.d/dhcpcd
Scroll Down and look for:
"##### MAIN FUNCTION ###"
it is about 40 lines from the end of the file. Somewhere between
the
""## Main Function ###"" and the end of the file, you will see:
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec $DAEMON --
$IFACE
you need to change this line to:
start-stop-daemon --start --quiet --exec $DAEMON
-- -h "machinename" $IFACE
For @home service, "machinename" should be something like cr123456-a
adding the -h flag sends your computer name with DHCP request to the
@Home servers.
If you see more than once instance of "start-stop-daemon ..." then I
guess you need to modify them all.
If you have problems in addition to the steps above, that you
may need to get rid of :
/etc/rc.2/S20ppp
and
/etc/rc.3/S20ppp
because these scripts sometimes interfere with the DHCP
initialization.. dont ask me why, but the tech support guy at Corel told
me so.
