Fixing Gateway's Mouse in Caldera OpenLinux 2.4
Written by: lza1200
I just installed OpenLinux 2.4 and found some annoying problems with the
mouse. During the installation, where the mouse detection took place,
Lizard detected a PS/2 mouse (it's a Gateway mouse,
looks/feels/acts/smells like a PS/2). All seemed fine until I booted into
Linux and attempted to mouse around in the K desktop. The mouse wouldn't
go beyond about 50 pixels from the edge of the screen. ARRGH!
So after a bit of frustration, I found out that apparently Gateway mice
aren't real PS/2 mice even though they have a PS/2 plug on them. They're
actually a strange serial / PS/2 hybrid. So when Lizard was detecting my
mouse during install, it got confused.
The fix? Go into your /etc/XF86Config file and make sure you have the
following:
Section "Pointer"
Protocol "PS/2"
Device "/dev/psaux"
It worked beautifully for me, and now I'm happily mousing through KDE!
